Welcome to The Anaesthesia School

Veterinary Anaesthesia Education started simply — just me, sharing advice with colleagues and friends. Then came the social media messages, the CPD events, the Instagram posts… and now, it’s grown into something much bigger: The Anaesthesia School.

I’ve created this online space with you in mind — to empower vets and veterinary nurses, no matter your experience level, with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to feel more at home with anaesthesia. Because when you understand it, you can truly make a difference to your patients.

My goal is to make learning accessible, practical, and genuinely useful — whether you're starting out or building on what you already know. And if you’re looking for something that’s not here yet, just ask. If I can help, I will.

Learning here is flexible, engaging, and grounded in real life. I want you to enjoy anaesthesia — or at least see that it doesn’t have to be scary.

So, let’s learn together. Let’s build confidence, grow skills, and raise the standard of veterinary anaesthesia — one step at a time.

Who am I?

Hi, I'm Robyn. Nice to meet you!

Robyn Thomson

I'm an EBVS® European Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia with a passion for teaching and improving patient care. After graduating from the University of Glasgow in 2015, I completed a rotating internship at the University of Glasgow Small Animal Hospital, followed by a Residency in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia at Langford Small Animal Referral Hospital. I love anaesthesia, but I appreciate its not everyone's cup of tea, and that a lot of people find it a bit intimidating, even overwhelming. If I had a magic wand and could give everyone the confidence to perform anaesthetics safely and to the best of their ability, I would. Sadly, I do not have a magic wand, so this is the closest I could get. My aim if to ensure that everyone can have the knowledge and skills to perform anaesthetics at all levels. Anaesthesia isn't just something that happens at referral level, or only by Specialist Anaesthetists. It happens every day, in almost all practices across the country, carried out by people with different levels of qualifications and experience. I want to make sure that all those animals can get the care they deserve. I hope that my love of anaesthesia will shine through, and give you the confidence, knowledge and skills to do the best for your patients.
